YANNIS DAVY GUIBINGA

Yannis Davy Guibinga is a Gabonese-Canadian photographer and visual artist whose work creates richly constructed worlds around African identity, memory, mythology, and belonging.Working primarily through portraiture, Yannis combines contemporary visual language with African symbolism and Afrofuturist references to create images that feel both cinematic and deeply personal. His subjects are not simply photographed; they are placed within carefully considered environments where colour, styling, gesture, and symbolism all become part of the story. What draws us to Yannis’ work is the way it holds both beauty and complexity. Beneath the striking compositions are questions around displacement, resilience, transformation, and what it means to move between cultures while remaining connected to where you come from.Rooted in his Gabonese heritage and shaped by a broader interest in decolonizing photographic representation, his practice offers another way of seeing African and diasporic identities — not as something fixed or singular, but as layered, evolving, and expansive. The result is work that feels like both portrait and world-building: an invitation to look closer, question familiar representations, and imagine identity on its own terms.

LeBicar

LeBicarCanada · Based in Montréal, QuébecLeBicar creates with a visual language that feels unmistakably his: bold black lines, pared-back forms, recurring flowers, and an instinct for making an image say more with less. Moving between painting, sculpture, drawing, murals and public installation, his practice carries the influence of Montréal street and skate culture while remaining open, playful and immediately accessible. What draws us to LeBicar’s work is that it doesn’t ask to be decoded before it can be felt. There is a directness to it — but never emptiness. His flowers, in particular, hold a tension we find compelling: something fragile made strong, something familiar given new meaning. They have become a way of looking at the world with optimism while still acknowledging its setbacks, contradictions and harder moments. That optimism is what gives the work its emotional weight. It isn’t about pretending everything is beautiful. It is closer to the decision to keep noticing what is alive, funny, hopeful or possible.Whether encountered on canvas or at the scale of the city, the work retains that same sense of presence — a reminder that sometimes the simplest symbols are the ones we carry with us.

Mony Zakhour

Mony Zakhour builds compositions that seem to be constantly in motion. Shapes overlap, lines interrupt one another, gestures emerge and disappear, creating dense visual worlds that sit somewhere between instinct and control. Working primarily in contemporary abstraction across canvas and large-scale murals, he describes this language as “designed chaos” — an accumulation of marks that is gradually shaped through line, shading and structure. What draws us to Mony’s work is that tension. At first, the eye doesn’t quite know where to land. Then fragments begin to reveal themselves and the apparent disorder starts to feel intentional. There is energy in the work, but also restraint — a sense that every layer has been allowed to move before eventually finding its place.Born and raised in Nova Scotia to Lebanese immigrant parents, Mony’s practice has never remained fixed. Earlier work moved through portraiture and urban landscapes before abstraction became his primary language. More recently, the figure has begun to reappear: recognizable silhouettes containing interiors filled with colour, gesture and fragmented form. That evolution is part of what keeps the work compelling. There is always something underneath the surface waiting to be found.

Cruz

Cruz creates images that feel less like documentation and more like fragments of an inner life made visible. Working primarily through photography, the Filipino lens-based artist moves between analog and digital processes, cyanotype, Polaroid, poetry and mixed media to give form to experiences of vulnerability, intimacy, loss and self-discovery.What draws us to Cruz’s work is its openness. The images often begin from something deeply personal, but they leave enough space for someone else to enter. A hand reaching toward another, a body, a memory, a fleeting moment—the gestures can be simple, yet they carry the emotional weight of wanting to understand ourselves and one another.Photography, in Cruz’s practice, is not treated as a fixed record. Images are reworked, transferred, layered and sometimes transformed into physical objects, challenging the idea that a photograph has to exist in only one form. There is tenderness in that experimentation. The work reminds us that being vulnerable can also be a way of reaching outward—and finding connection in what we thought was ours alone.

Daniel Itiose

Daniel Itiose is a hyper-realist who became intrigued with the art of drawing at an early age. He delved into oil painting in late 2017, and has been in love with this medium’s various aspects of representation ever since. His work consists of the exploration of the human condition — how it shapes and molds appearances as individuals — with a primary focus on portraiture. The artistic approach starts with a photographic reference. The distribution of marks and brushstrokes on a flat surface creates a three-dimensional subject, while deterring from the fictitiousness that often comes with it. Rather than beautify the subject, he meticulously illustrates them as they truly are… hair, skin and pores… The compilation of these physiological details tell tales.
