Coltrane's Lament
Coltrane's Lament
This piece is part of the Blue Notes series. Blue Notes mines the aesthetic of the inimitable Blue Note Records and pays tribute to the jazz artists who graced their releases. From Eric Dolphy to Madlib (performing at this years Montreal Jazzfest) to Thelonious Monk, the collages represent the searching music played by these artists as they pushed the meaning of sound in new directions.

About the artist
About the artist
Shane Joines is a Montreal-based analog collage artist and photographer whose work explores shape, context, and the surreal. His pieces spark open-ended stories, inviting viewers to drift beyond the frame.
Inspired by the jarring fluidity of jazz, Shane reuses figures like recurring notes—each time reshaped by new intersections and meaning. Recent works blend his photography and collage practices, continuing his search for harmony in unexpected collisions.
Shane has exhibited across Canada and internationally, with work featured on several album covers.
