About the artist
Yan Lortie’s work is rooted in a search for balance—a way to slow down and reconnect amidst the noise of modern life. Raised in the quiet of the Laurentians and now based in Montreal, he turns to the canvas as a refuge, using paint to process the pace and pressure of urban living.
His series This is Not Digital captures this contrast, blending spontaneity and intention, chaos and calm. Deeply influenced by music—from hip hop and electronic to classical—Yan lets rhythm guide his hand, each piece becoming a visual echo of sound and feeling.
For Yan, art is both escape and connection. With every brushstroke, he explores the boundaries between people, places, and emotions, reminding us of the quiet beauty found in reflection and the power of creativity to ground us.
