Twice as Far

Twice as Far

"If it takes twice as long or if you have to go twice as far, will it really matter once you have arrived?

I have had some sense that getting to some far-off goal more quickly is some sign of worthiness. Even with the understanding that the journey allows for discovery and growth, I felt judgement against myself if the path wound on a bit too long. I have proclaimed that I have learned these lessons, now I am ready for what is next, as though it were some list of assignments. The imagined control, the certainty that I can make it happen, the hope that wanting and working hard would, in some combination, change everything. I do have partial control. Perseverance will move me forward along the path. Wanting and working hard will maintain my determination. But there is more. More than I can understand. More than I can see. More than I can predict. Climbing that jagged rock may prepare me for the ascent up a wonderous mountain ahead.

It may be twice as far; it may take twice as long but why would I cut short the adventure of getting there."

About the artist

Margaret is a Montreal-based artist whose work is a vibrant exploration of colour, movement, and emotion. Originally trained as a chef, she spent 15 years in the culinary world before fully committing to her artistic practice in 2016. Painting in acrylic, she embraces both the structured and spontaneous, creating collections that evolve in response—and sometimes in opposition—to one another.

Her work is deeply intuitive, guided by the emotional energy she channels onto the canvas. Through layered textures, bold contrasts, and expressive brushwork, Margaret transforms feelings into visual compositions, allowing rage to become beautiful, sadness to provide comfort, and joy to shine untarnished. Her collections reflect this journey, from the serene, muted tones of Serenity to the dynamic tension of Borders Not Limits and the raw energy of Wild.

Beyond technique, Margaret’s practice is rooted in personal expansion. A Reiki Grand Master, she draws inspiration from the emotional awakenings of women reclaiming their voices, as well as her own journey toward self-acceptance. Her paintings invite viewers to embrace the power of their emotions, recognizing the ever-changing flow of feeling as a force of transformation.

Margaret lives and creates in Montreal, Canada, and occasionally in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
